Job summary

Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) in Portland, Maine, is seeking an Emergency & Critical Care Technician to join our multi-specialty hospital. You will work with ER doctors and a supportive team to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician or experienced Veterinary Assistant.
  • Strong organizational and client communication skills.
  • Comfortable with advanced diagnostics, imaging and anesthetic monitoring.
  • Tech-savvy and able to learn veterinary software systems.
  • Collaborative and compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide triage and stabilize incoming patients.
  • Administer IV, IM, SQ, and PO medications.
  • Assist with diagnostics such as radiographs, bloodwork, and ECGs.
  • Manage fluid therapy and anesthesia monitoring as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with doctors, teammates, and clients.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and treatment sheets.
  • Support patient admissions, discharges, and client education.
  • Assist in emergency procedures and critical care support.

Anticipated Schedule
This is a full-time position.

  • Thursday, Friday and Saturday 1:30pm-2am
  • Some holidays are required

Compensation

  • Starting at $25-38/hour, commensurate with experience and licensure
  • Mid-shifts, overnight shifts, and weekend shifts plus shift differential
  • Highly skilled veterinary assistants may also be considered for this role
What You’ll Do:

As an Emergency & Critical Care Technician, you’ll work directly with our ER doctors and support team to deliver excellent patient care in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. Your ability to multitask, stay calm under pressure, and act as a patient advocate is key to our mission. In this role, you will:
