Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists Albuquerque is seeking a Veterinary Technician – Emergency to join a weekend day team providing critical care for dogs and cats. You’ll triage, assist in procedures, monitor patients, and communicate with families with calm professionalism.

The role emphasizes anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, and rapid diagnostic use in a busy emergency setting. Weekend shifts are 12 hours, with competitive compensation based on experience.

Qualifications

• RV T or equivalent emergency/critical care experience.
• Strong technical skills in anesthesia and patient monitoring.
• Ability to stay calm and compassionate in high-pressure moments.

Responsibilities

• Triage incoming emergency patients and communicate critical information to the veterinary team.
• Assist veterinarians in emergency procedures such as wound repair and anesthesia monitoring.
• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment (digital radiography, in-house lab analyzers, ultrasound).
• Administer medications and place IV catheters with precision.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and alert the team to changes.
• Provide compassionate client communication during stressful situations.
• Maintain a clean, organized treatment area.

Schedule: 8am-8pm Friday-Sunday

Compensation is negotiable based on experience and credentials, with an expected starting range of $24-$28/hour The final pay will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Weekend shift differential available.

About You

As a Veterinary Technician on our weekend day team, you’ll be the steady, skilled hands and calm voice that help pets and their families through emergencies. From stabilizing critical patients to assisting in life‑saving procedures, your work will directly influence outcomes and bring comfort in moments of crisis.

What You’ll Do

• Triage incoming emergency patients and communicate critical information to the veterinary team.

• Assist veterinarians in emergency procedures such as wound repair, fluid therapy, and anesthesia monitoring.

• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment (digital radiography, in‑house lab analyzers, ultrasound).

• Administer medications, place IV catheters, and perform blood draws with precision and care.

• Monitor hospitalized patients, documenting changes and alerting the medical team promptly.

• Provide compassionate client communication during stressful situations.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment area.

What You’ll Bring

• Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent experience in emergency/critical care.

• Strong technical skills in anesthesia, venipuncture, and patient monitoring.

• Ability to remain calm, focused, and compassionate in high‑pressure situations.

• Excellent communication skills with both clients and team members.

• Flexibility to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday day shifts consistently 12 hours per shift.
