Job summary

Thrive Albuquerque is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician for emergency weekend coverage in Albuquerque, NM. You will stabilize critical patients and assist in life-saving procedures, ensuring calm support for pets and families.

As part of Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists, you’ll collaborate with veterinarians, monitor anesthesia, perform venipuncture and diagnostics, and maintain a clean, organized treatment area. Weekend schedule runs Fri–Sun, 8am–8pm.

Qualifications

• RVT or equivalent with emergency/critical care experience.
• Strong anesthesia, venipuncture, and patient monitoring skills.
• Remain calm, focused, and compassionate under pressure.
• Excellent communication with clients and team.
• Willing to work Friday–Sunday day shifts, 12 hours each.

Responsibilities

• Triage incoming emergency patients and relay critical info to the team.
• Assist veterinarians in wound repair, fluids, and anesthesia monitoring.
• Operate digital radiography, in-house labs, and ultrasound.
• Administer meds, place IV catheters, draw blood.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and document changes.
• Provide compassionate client communication.
• Maintain clean, stocked treatment area.

Schedule: 8am-8pm Friday-Sunday

Compensation is negotiable based on experience and credentials, with an expected starting range of $24-$28/hour The final pay will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Weekend shift differential available.

About You

As a Veterinary Technician on our weekend day team, you’ll be the steady, skilled hands and calm voice that help pets and their families through emergencies. From stabilizing critical patients to assisting in life‑saving procedures, your work will directly influence outcomes and bring comfort in moments of crisis.

What You’ll Do

• Triage incoming emergency patients and communicate critical information to the veterinary team.

• Assist veterinarians in emergency procedures such as wound repair, fluid therapy, and anesthesia monitoring.

• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment (digital radiography, in‑house lab analyzers, ultrasound).

• Administer medications, place IV catheters, and perform blood draws with precision and care.

• Monitor hospitalized patients, documenting changes and alerting the medical team promptly.

• Provide compassionate client communication during stressful situations.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment area.

What You’ll Bring

• Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent experience in emergency/critical care.

• Strong technical skills in anesthesia, venipuncture, and patient monitoring.

• Ability to remain calm, focused, and compassionate in high‑pressure situations.

• Excellent communication skills with both clients and team members.

• Flexibility to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday day shifts consistently 12 hours per shift.
