Sherwood South Animal Hospital & Emergency Center is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our INCREDIBLE Emergency team!

About You

As a Veterinary Technician, you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to surgery assistance, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Experience & Skills Requirements:

1. Has a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an emergency veterinary technician
2. ECC/CVT/LVT/RVT encouraged to apply
3. Has experience in anesthesia and surgical assisting and post-operative care
4. Able to observe the behavior and condition of animals
5. Provide superior nursing care or emergency first aid to recovering or injured animals
6. Comfortable with anesthetic patient monitoring of ASA I-III (preferred experience with ASA I-V)
7. Familiarity with the use of ventilators (preferred)
8. Prepare animals and instruments for surgery
9. Able to obtain blood pressure, interpret basic ECG, SpO2, and ETC02 and integrate clinical signs with disease processes to assist doctors in early and appropriate intervention of patient care
10. Collect laboratory samples, such as blood, urine, or tissue, for testing
11. Perform laboratory tests, such as urinalyses and blood counts
12. Comfortable utilizing digital radiography machines to acquire images using proper technique and positioning
13. Comfortable utilizing advanced diagnostic equipment
14. Administer medications and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian
15. Collect and record patients' case histories
16. Excellent problem-solving abilities (judgment, logic, creativity, conflict resolution)
17. Strong attention to detail

Role Responsibilities:

1. Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
2. With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
3. Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians.
4. Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
5. Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
6. Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
7. Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
8. Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
