Overview

Applies medical nursing knowledge attained through hands-on experience and/or formal education to assist veterinarians in a clinical setting, providing support for a variety of animal health care needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare treatment room for examination of animals, and restrain animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation.
• Administer injections, perform venipunctures, apply wound dressings, clean teeth, and take vital signs of animals under minimal supervision.
• Prepare patient, medications, and equipment for surgery, and hand instruments and materials to veterinarian during surgical procedures.
• Perform routine laboratory tests.
• Assist veterinarian with emergent or specialized patient care as needed.

Qualifications

• State-recognized veterinary technician credential (CVT, LVT, or RVT) with credential in good standing required.
