Metropolitan Veterinary Associates (MVA) is seeking a part-time Surgery Assistant to support the surgical team in a high-paced hospital setting. You will assist with patient admits, surgical procedures, and aftercare, collaborating with veterinarians and technicians to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a veterinary or animal care setting.
  • A foundation in basic restraint.
  • Strong communication skills, essential for working with Surgery Technicians, veterinarians, and other team members.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, welcoming the chance to expand your knowledge.
  • Sterilization techniques and Operating Room experience not mandatory but preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinary technicians in patient admits and discharges, ensuring clients receive clear instructions and feel confident about at‑home care.
  • Assist in performing digital radiographs, positioning patients safely and accurately with the guidance of a nurse.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members to convey important updates, next steps, and relevant instructions.
  • Provide patient care, including handling laundry, husbandry duties, walking dogs, and cleaning cages to maintain a safe, comfortable environment.
  • Stock supplies in various locations throughout the hospital, keeping work areas organized and ready for immediate use.
  • Uphold hospital cleanliness and integrity, ensuring each space is orderly, sanitized, and properly equipped.

Veterinary Technician Assistant – Surgery

The Resident's Surgery Assistant will be responsible for assisting with appointments, holding, loading rooms, and providing support to the doctor.

  • Ideally familiar with Cornerstone or EZYvet software; not required.
  • Handling skill.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the doctor during appointments and surgeries.
  • Provide support in the Emergency Room.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Support veterinary technicians in patient admits and discharges, ensuring clients receive clear instructions and feel confident about at‑home care.

Anticipated Schedule

This is a Part‑Time position with the following available schedule:

  • Must work on Sundays from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, or if not in the ER must work 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Compensation
  • Starting at $19.00 per hour.
