Job summary

Metropolitan Veterinary Associates is seeking a Veterinary Technician – Surgery to support our surgical department and deliver exceptional patient care. You will assist with procedures, monitor anesthesia, manage records, and ensure smooth case flow in a high-volume specialty and emergency setting.

The role requires 1–2 years of vet tech experience, a calm demeanor, strong pharmacology knowledge, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician/Nurse.
  • CVT/LVT/RVT licensure preferred or educational equivalent.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a high-volume setting.
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary pharmacology, terminology, and disease processes.
  • Excellent communication and multitasking skills.
  • A calm, focused demeanor and a commitment to learning and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on assistance during procedures—from general patient care and diagnostic workups to advanced interventions—under the guidance of senior technicians and specialists.
  • Manage a range of technical tasks, such as venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, and patient record-keeping.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, ensuring the department is stocked with necessary supplies and that equipment is ready for immediate use.
  • Monitor and care for non-critical and recovering patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments (IV, IM, SQ, PO).
  • Prepare and manage patient recovery from anesthesia.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, clinicians, and support teams.
  • Maintain accurate records, follow treatment plans, and assist with patient discharge.
  • Demonstrate sound medical knowledge and attention to detail in a fast-paced setting.
  • Apply Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques to keep patients safe and calm.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Technician – Surgery, you’ll support our surgical department, ensuring smooth operations and excellent patient care. In this role, you will:

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position with the following available schedule:

Monday-Thursday: 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Compensation

Starting at $26.00/hour
