Job summary

Metropolitan Veterinary Associates is seeking a Veterinary Technician - Surgery to support our surgical department and deliver exceptional patient care. You will work with veterinarians and specialists to ensure smooth operations, handling general patient care, diagnostic workups, and advanced interventions under supervision.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician, familiar with anesthesia procedures, medications, and high-volume clinical settings.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician/Nurse.
• Familiar with surgical procedures and patient care in a high-volume setting.
• Strong knowledge of veterinary pharmacology and terminology.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on assistance during surgical procedures under supervision.
• Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, and record-keeping.
• Maintain department organization and ensure supplies and equipment are ready for use.
• Monitor and care for non-critical and recovering patients.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Technician - Surgery, you’ll support our surgical department, ensuring smooth operations and excellent patient care. In this role, you will:

• Provide hands‑on assistance during procedures-from general patient care and diagnostic workups to advanced interventions-under the guidance of senior technicians and specialists.
• Manage a range of technical tasks, such as venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, and patient record‑keeping.
• Maintain a high level of organization, ensuring the department is stocked with necessary supplies and that equipment is ready for immediate use.

Monitor and care for non‑critical and recovering patients

Administer medications and treatments ( IV, IM, SQ, PO )

Prepare and manage patient recovery from anesthesia

Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, clinicians, and support teams

Maintain accurate records, follow treatment plans, and assist with patient discharge

Demonstrate sound medical knowledge and attention to detail in a fast‑paced setting

Apply Fear Free and low‑stress handling techniques to keep patients safe and calm

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position with the following available schedule:

Monday-Thursday: 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Compensation

Starting at $26.00/hour

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking Veterinary Technicians who take pride in precision, remain calm under pressure, and find fulfillment in delivering outstanding patient care. You likely have:

1-2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician/Nurse

CVT/LVT/RVT licensure preferred or educational equivalent

Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a high-volume setting

Strong knowledge of veterinary pharmacology, terminology, and disease processes

Excellent communication and multitasking skills

A calm, focused demeanor and a commitment to learning and growth
