Job summary

Metropolitan Veterinary Associates (MVA) is seeking a Veterinary Technician – Surgery to support the surgical department, ensuring smooth operations and exceptional patient care. You will work with veterinarians and specialists to provide hands-on assistance, monitor anesthesia, manage records, and maintain stocked supplies.

This full-time role offers a Monday-Thursday 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM schedule, starting at $26.00/hour.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of Veterinary Technician/Nurse experience.
  • CVT, LVT, or RVT licensure preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume surgical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary pharmacology and disease processes.
  • Excellent communication and multitasking skills.
  • Calm, focused demeanor and commitment to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on assistance during procedures under the guidance of senior technicians and specialists.
  • Manage venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, and patient record-keeping.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, ensuring supplies and equipment are ready for immediate use.
  • Monitor and care for non-critical and recovering patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments (IV, IM, SQ, PO) and manage anesthesia recovery.
  • Communicate clearly with clients, clinicians, and support teams.
  • Follow treatment plans and assist with patient discharge.
  • Demonstrate sound medical knowledge and attention to detail in a fast-paced setting.
  • Apply Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques to keep patients safe and calm.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Technician – Surgery, you’ll support our surgical department, ensuring smooth operations and excellent patient care. In this role, you will:

  • Provide hands-on assistance during procedures—from general patient care and diagnostic workups to advanced interventions—under the guidance of senior technicians and specialists.
  • Manage a range of technical tasks, such as venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, and patient record-keeping.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, ensuring the department is stocked with necessary supplies and that equipment is ready for immediate use.

Monitor and care for non-critical and recovering patients

Administer medications and treatments (IV, IM, SQ, PO)

Prepare and manage patient recovery from anesthesia

Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, clinicians, and support teams

Maintain accurate records, follow treatment plans, and assist with patient discharge

Demonstrate sound medical knowledge and attention to detail in a fast-paced setting

Apply Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques to keep patients safe and calm

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position with the following available schedule:

Monday-Thursday: 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Compensation

Starting at $26.00/hour

1–2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician/Nurse

CVT/LVT/RVT licensure preferred or educational equivalent
