Job summary

Portland Vet is opening a brand-new general practice in Portland, ME and seeks an experienced Veterinary Technician Assistant to deliver high-quality patient and client care in a collaborative, expanding team.

This full-time GP role offers a Monday–Thursday schedule with no weekends or holidays (potentially one weekend day with growth), a competitive pay range of $23–$29 per hour, sign-on bonus opportunities, and a modern, fully equipped facility that supports open communication and shared

Qualifications

• Veterinary assistant with 1–2 years of experience in small animal practice.
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal handling, and basic medical workflows.
• Strong organizational and communication skills in a fast-paced clinic environment.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and restrain patients with minimal stress during exams and treatments.
• Assist in diagnostics: lab sample collection, radiographs, record vitals, perform basic lab work.
• Support the team during routine procedures including surgery and dentistry.
• Maintain tidy, organized treatment rooms, exam rooms, and supply areas.
• Help communicate with clients and provide supportive guidance throughout their visit.

Join a new general practice in Portland, Portland Vet - Stroudwater, and build something new from day one. As our new GP clinic opens its doors, we’re seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to help deliver exceptional patient and client care in a collaborative and expanding environment.

Anticipated Schedule
This is a full-time position

• Monday through Thursday to start, no weekends or holidays (potential for a weekend day with growth; flexibility is appreciated)
• Bonus potential for very experienced assistants

Compensation

• Pay range $23-29/hr, commensurate with experience and credentials
