Job summary

CareVet of Atchafalaya in Morgan City, LA is seeking a Veterinary Technician/Assistant to support patient care and medical history intake. The role involves assisting veterinarians, handling medications, and patient processing with opportunities for skill development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; and one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent.
• Registered Veterinary Technicians in Louisiana are preferred, not necessarily required. Training available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Check patient medical records for past histories and enter them into the computer.
• Take medical histories and vital signs of patients.
• Maintain client educational material efficiently.
• Admit and discharge patients.
• Process and log prescription refills in-house, call out to the pharmacy and online pharmacy.
• Monitor hospital patients and log vital signs.
• Administer medications to patients as needed.
• Place catheters and perform blood draws.
• Restrain and assist the doctor during exams, treatments, and anesthesia procedures.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
• Other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Checks patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files.
• Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.*

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
