PetVet Care Centers' Belle Forest Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant/Veterinary Technician to join their team.
Position Overview
Support hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to patients and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, interviews, reviewing care plans, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, restraining patients, and assisting as directed by the veterinarian.
- Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and drug administration.
- Obtain and verify medications.
- Ensure patients have food and water, clean rooms, cages, and equipment; observe patients for clinical signs of disease.
- Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, and following applicable regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database accurately and timely.
- Communicate with pet owners about patient status, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Maintain inventory, place orders for supplies, verify receipts, and keep accurate inventory records.
- Stay updated on job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
- Release pets to owners as directed; ensure animals released are clean and properly groomed.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
- High school diploma or GED.
- Relevant experience in a veterinary setting.
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
- Professional, mature communication and approach to job duties.
- Physical stamina for lifting, cleaning, and constant motion.
- Capacity for extended periods of desk work or standing/walking.
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Capacity to lift or carry moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds).
- Answer phones and perform other duties as needed.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Two years of experience as a veterinary assistant.
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT).
Schedule
Monday–Friday 7 AM–6 PM; required every other Saturday 8 AM–1 PM.

Pay Range
$14.12 – $22.14 USD.
