Job summary

CareVet of Freeport is seeking a Veterinary Technician/Assistant to join our urgent care and general practice team in Freeport, ME. The role involves taking histories, monitoring patients, administering meds, and assisting doctors during exams and anesthesia.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Maine LVT preferred but not required.
• 1–2 years related experience or training is desirable.
• Must be able to multi-task and support a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Check patient medical records and enter data into the system.
• Take medical histories and vital signs of patients.
• Administer medications and assist with exams and anesthesia.
• Place catheters and perform blood draws as needed.
• Restrain and assist the doctor during procedures and exams.
• Lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Checks patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files.
• Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.*
• Maintains client educational material in an efficient manner.*
• Admits and discharges patients.*
• Takes, processes and logs prescription refills in-house, call out pharmacy and online pharmacy.*
• Monitoring hospital patients and logging vital signs.*
• Administering medications to patients as needed.*
• Placing catheters and performing blood draws.*
• Restraining and assisting the doctor during exams, treatments, and anesthesia procedures.*
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and stand on feet for long periods
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed Veterinary Technicians in Maine are preferred, not necessarily required. We are open and willing to train the right candidate.
