Job summary

South Orange Animal Hospital in South Orange, NJ, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our full-time team. You will assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures, provide high-quality nursing care, and help maintain hospital operations with compassion and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Previous Veterinary Technician experience in a clinical setting.
  • Strong technical skills with hands-on patient care.
  • Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, lab procedures, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and patient recovery.
  • Safe and compassionate patient handling and restraint skills.
  • Excellent communication and client education skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy veterinary environment.
  • Positive attitude, dependability, and collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgeries, and dental procedures.
  • Triage patients and obtain medical histories, vital signs, and assessments.
  • Provide nursing care from patient intake through discharge.
  • Safely handle and restrain patients using proper techniques.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostics.
  • Prepare medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs and perform in-house labs.
  • Prepare patients/equipment for surgical and dental procedures.
  • Monitor anesthesia and vital signs during procedures and recovery.
  • Educate clients on medications, preventive care, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and clean work areas.
  • Collaborate with doctors to maintain efficient workflow and culture.

What Our Veterinary Technicians Do

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgeries, and dental procedures
  • Triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories, vital signs, and patient assessments
  • Provide compassionate, high‑quality nursing care from patient intake through discharge
  • Safely handle and restrain patients using appropriate techniques
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic sample collection
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
  • Obtain high‑quality diagnostic radiographs
  • Perform in‑house laboratory testing and prepare samples for reference laboratories
  • Prepare patients and equipment for surgical and dental procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia and patient vital signs throughout procedures and recovery
  • Educate clients regarding medications, preventive care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records
  • Keep treatment, surgical, and exam areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patient care
  • Collaborate with doctors and teammates to maintain an efficient workflow and positive hospital culture

What You’ll Bring

  • Previous Veterinary Technician experience in a clinical setting
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician credential welcomed but not required
