Job summary

SPCA Florida's Lakeland Veterinary Clinic is seeking a skilled Veterinary Surgical & Anesthesia Technician who thrives in a collaborative, high-standard hospital setting. The role focuses on surgical prep, anesthesia management, and comprehensive patient care for dogs and cats.

You will prepare for surgery, assist with anesthesia, monitor patients, and educate clients while maintaining meticulous medical records.

Qualifications

• CVT graduate from AVMA-accredited program or proven veterinary technician experience.
• Strong surgical and anesthesia procedure knowledge preferred.
• Applicable knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, and radiographic basics.
• Experience with IV catheter placement, blood draws, and sample collection.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for surgery, including clipping and scrub.
• Assist with anesthesia induction, maintenance, monitoring and recovery.
• Monitor patients during procedures and communicate changes to the veterinarian.
• Maintain surgical instruments, equipment and area cleanliness.
• Assist veterinarians during procedures and with related medical treatments.
• Position and secure patients; administer medications and fluids as directed.
• Collect diagnostic samples and prepare specimens for testing.
• Maintain thorough medical records and usual pre/post-operative care.
• Educate clients on care, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Maintain professional client communication with empathy and clarity.
