Job summary

Humane Society of Tampa Bay in Clearwater, FL is seeking a full-time experienced Surgery Vet Technician for our Pinellas Clinic, opening September 1st. The role provides surgical support and compassionate patient care under a licensed veterinarian.

Responsibilities include restraining animals, assisting with anesthesia, preparing medications/equipment, running basic labs, taking digital X-rays, and delivering nursing care per hospital standards.

Qualifications

• Must have surgery experience as a vet tech.
• Experience restraining animals during examinations and procedures.
• Willingness to perform nursing tasks for hospital care.
• Ability to monitor anesthesia and IV fluids under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Holds or restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation.
• Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs under supervision.
• Prepares patient, medications, and equipment for surgery.
• Performs routine laboratory tests.
• Provides nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Ability to place intravenous catheter in cephalic or saphenous vein.
• Performs TPR; counts heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, membranes, temperature, respiration.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids and operate IV fluid pumps.
• Prepare animals for anesthesia and surgery, including IV placements and monitoring.
• Perform venipuncture from animals.
• Assist veterinarian with restraining patients for pre-op exams.
• Run various lab tests and take digital X-rays.
