Job summary

United Veterinary Care in Austin, TX seeks a Doctor’s Assistant – Veterinary Surgery to support surgeons and staff. You will coordinate consultations, prep patients, guide owners through care plans, and manage postoperative follow-ups in a busy surgical setting.

The role requires at least two years of veterinary experience, strong communication, and the ability to multitask while maintaining compassionate client support. Full-time, on-site position with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and at least two years of veterinary experience.
• Preferred: previous surgery or specialty veterinary experience.
• Ability to coordinate care and guide clients through medical information.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate surgical consultations, procedures, recheck appointments, and related documentation.
• Guide clients through pre-operative preparation, discharge, recovery, medications, and aftercare.
• Perform phone triage for prospective surgical patients and help determine next steps.
• Prepare patient estimates and invoices, fill prescriptions, and coordinate pharmacy orders.
• Communicate with referring veterinarians and obtain medical records for continuity of care.
• Follow up with surgical patients after discharge and provide daily updates to families.
