Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Veterinary Surgeon role based at Avets in Monroeville, PA. The Veterinary Surgeon will perform soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, manage pre-operative and post-operative care, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with emergency and specialty teams. Daily responsibilities include assessing patients, interpreting diagnostic tests, communicating clearly with pet families and referring veterinarians, and maintaining accurate medical records. The role also involves working closely with technicians and support staff, participating in case discussions, and contributing to continuous improvement of hospital protocols and patient care standards.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in Veterinary Surgery and Veterinary Medicine, including surgical planning, execution, and post-operative management.
• Knowledge of Medicine and Laboratory Skills for diagnosing conditions, interpreting lab results, and integrating findings into treatment plans.
• Experience in Pet Care, with a focus on compassionate handling, pain management, and clear communication with pet families.
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) and completion of a surgery internship or residency, or comparable experience.
• Current veterinary license (or eligibility) in Pennsylvania and professional liability coverage.
• Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary emergency and specialty setting and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
