Avets, an emergency veterinary hospital located in Monroeville, PA, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for full-time day and night coverage with rotating weekend shifts and holidays. Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience safely restraining animals in a veterinary, shelter, or animal care setting.
  • Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and efficient in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude with a commitment to fostering a respectful and collaborative workplace.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with clients with empathy and compassion.
  • The ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift at least 25 pounds throughout a 10-hour shift.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills are required; bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering exceptional patient care.
  • Safely restrain and handle patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Collect and process laboratory samples while assisting with diagnostic testing.
  • Walk, monitor, and provide basic husbandry care for hospitalized patients.
  • Clean and disinfect treatment areas, kennels, and equipment to maintain a safe, sanitary hospital environment.
  • Restock medical supplies and treatment areas to ensure the hospital is always prepared for patient care.
  • Assist with patient transport and provide support wherever needed throughout the hospital.
  • Collaborate with a compassionate, team-oriented group dedicated to providing outstanding care for pets and their families.

Job description

Veterinary Assistant, Emergency

Location: Monroeville, PA

Schedule: Full-time | 4 Ten Hour Shifts Per Week - Days & Nights Available | Includes One Weekend Shift Per Week | Rotating Holidays

Compensation: Hourly Wage is Dependent On Experience | Applicable Shift Differentials - $4/hr from 7pm-7am on all nights of the week, $2.50/hr weekend shift differential (12am on Friday night/Saturday morning through 12am on Sunday night/Monday morning)

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will
  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering exceptional patient care.

What Your Bring
  • At least 1 year of experience safely restraining animals in a veterinary, shelter, or animal care setting (experience with personal pets does not qualify).
