Job summary

University of California, Davis Health in San Diego seeks a skilled Animal Health Technician to independently support anesthesia and patient care for a veterinary surgery and emergency service. Working in a hospital setting, you will assist with induction, monitoring, and post-operative recovery under supervision.

This on-site role requires California RVT licensure, strong assessment and venipuncture skills, and the ability to coordinate care with surgeons and staff.

Qualifications

• Current California RVT licensure.
• Experience in a hospital setting with emergent/critically ill or anesthetized small animals.
• Experience in calculating and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally.
• Experience with animal restraint, venipuncture and placement of vascular/urinary catheters.
• Experience with surgical asepsis and preventing contamination of patients, instruments and supplies.
• Ability to assess patients, recognize condition changes and respond appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Provide anesthesia technical support.
• Provide technical and nursing support to the surgical and critical care teams.
• Assist with facility/equipment maintenance and related tasks.
• Coordinate services and communication with surgeons and staff.
