Job summary

Virginia Tech’s Animal Cancer Care and Research Center in Roanoke seeks a Clinician Assistant to join the veterinary oncology team. You will work alongside specialists in Radiation and Surgical Oncology, documenting care in real time, supporting clients, and coordinating patient flow.

You will gain hands-on exposure to diagnostic imaging, cancer care, and clinical operations, while developing medical terminology and EMR proficiency in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Ability to learn new software and troubleshoot tech.
• Typing 60+ words per minute.

Responsibilities

• Accompany clinicians during patient appointments and document medical information in real time.
• Record patient histories, physical findings, assessments, and follow-up plans.
• Interact with clients in person, by phone, and by email with professionalism and care.
• Assist with follow-up calls and emails, pending results and recommendations.
• Help coordinate scheduling and communication between clinical staff and clients.
• Prepare and edit clinical summaries and discharge instructions.
• Document conversations accurately in medical records and relay information between teams.
• Maintain patient tracking systems and ensure timely follow-up on results.
