Job summary

Hope Advanced Veterinary Center in Vienna, VA is hiring an Oncology Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, including care, restraint, medication preparation, and assisting with diagnostics and surgeries.

You will contribute to a Culture of Care, work with a dedicated team, and participate in a range of duties from clinical tasks to client education. The position offers full-time hours with opportunities for growth within a AAHA-accredited hospital.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least three years of experience in a veterinary clinical environment.
• Experience with patient restraint, medication preparation, hospitalized patient care, and supporting diagnostic and sedated procedures.
• Must communicate professionally, work collaboratively, and safely perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and their owners, weigh and record vitals on arrival.
• Triage, perform exams, treatments, and administer medications as directed by licensed staff.
• Calm and soothe anxious patients.
• Assist doctors and technicians with medications and restraint.
• Perform labs and take radiographs.
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, pumps, monitors).
• Fill prescriptions and document medications accurately.
• Record appetites and report any abnormalities.
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and plans.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and safety.
• Bath and groom patients staying overnight.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Show up for full-time shifts as scheduled.
