This full-time role in Birmingham, AL offers collaboration with internal medicine, surgery, and critical care, plus opportunities for ultrasound and trial coordination. You will mentor staff and advocate for advanced cancer care.

The position emphasizes compassionate, patient-centered treatment and engagement with referring veterinarians, clients, and the broader oncology service growth.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
• Board certification in Veterinary Medical Oncology or residency training in Oncology.

Responsibilities

• Manage oncology cases in collaboration with Internal Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, and Critical Care.
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Support daily client communication, including treatment updates and triage.
• Mentor chemo trained technicians and support staff.
• Seek growth opportunities in ultrasound, ECT, or clinical trials.
• Collaborate with veterinarians and teams to provide compassionate patient care.

In your day to day, you will:

• Manage oncology cases in close collaboration with Internal Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, and Critical Care
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and ensure compliance with USP 800 safety standards
• Support daily client communication, including treatment updates, refills, and question triage
• Mentor chemo trained technicians, assistants, and support staff
• Pursue growth opportunities such as ultrasound training, ECT training, or clinical trial coordination
• Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations
• Contribute to a positive, team focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning

What You Bring

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure
• Board Certification in Veterinary Medical Oncology or residency training in Veterinary Medical Oncology
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills with experience managing complex oncology cases
• Excellent communication skills with a collaborative and client centered approach
