Job description

Skylos Sports Medicine, a BluePearl Veterinary Hospital, is looking for a highly motivated, energetic, and team-oriented Kennel Assistant for our growing Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Department.

*This position requires at least 2 years of vet med experience*

Schedule:Monday-Thursday, 8am-6pm. This position will support our Rehabilitation Veterinarian at both the Ellicott City and Frederick locations. M/T in Ellicott City, W/Th in Frederick.

Pay:$18.50 - $22.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

As a Kennel Assistant, some of your responsibilities will include assisting with physical exams on patients, preparing supplies for treatments and procedures, performing in-house diagnostics, and providing top-tier client care. Good verbal and written communication skills and compassion is a must. The right candidate will be a self-starter with a calming presence for our patients and team-oriented attitude.

As a Kennel Assistant, you will:

• Observe patients for obvious signs of health concerns and report any findings to senior staff.

• Clean and disinfect areas of the hospital as often as is necessary to maintain high standards of care.

• Prepare patient meals, clean patient cages,and bedding, and maintainlitter boxes.

• Safely approach and restrain cooperative patients as needed during treatments.

• Provide routine attention to patients, including walking dogs.

• Effectively clean and maintainhospital equipment and tools.

• Quantify patient voids and report findings to senior Veterinary Assistant or Technician.

• Remove and wash soiled laundry and keep clean laundry stocked.

• Patrol facility regularly to ensure cleanliness.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
