Florida Veterinary Referral Center in Estero, Florida is seeking an Internist specializing in Small Animal Medicine to join a collaborative, teaching-focused team.

You will manage complex internal medicine cases, coordinate with specialty and emergency teams, and mentor staff while pursuing ultrasound and IR training opportunities. The role emphasizes compassionate client communication and continuous professional growth within a supportive culture.

Qualifications

  • DVM degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
  • Board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine (DACVIM) required or pursuing.
  • Strong communication and client-centered approach preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex internal medicine cases across GI, hepatobiliary, infectious disease, endocrine, hematologic and respiratory systems.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostics such as ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and CT when indicated.
  • Coordinate care with specialty and emergency teams for shared patients and transfers.
  • Mentor technicians and assistants in daily case management.
  • Pursue growth opportunities in ultrasound, IR procedures, and electrochemotherapy training.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to deliver compassionate patient care.
  • Communicate clearly with pet owners during stressful situations.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.

In your day to day, you will:
  • Manage complex internal medicine cases spanning GI, hepatobiliary, infectious disease, endocrine, hematologic, and respiratory conditions
  • Perform and/or order diagnostics such as ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and CT
  • Coordinate with specialty and emergency teams on shared patients and transfers
  • Mentor technicians and assistants as part of daily case management
  • Pursue growth opportunities in ultrasound proficiency, IR procedures, and electrochemotherapy (ECT) training
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations
  • Contribute to a positive, team focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning
What You Bring
  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure
