Kanawha Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital in South Charleston, WV is seeking a compassionate Hospital Assistant to support veterinarians and staff. The role focuses on keeping the hospital clean, organized, and ready to handle emergency cases, with cross-training to assist client service representatives as needed.

The position supports technicians and veterinarians, and requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude are essential.
• Comfortable in a high-stress emergency environment with urgency and composure.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays in an emergency setting.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift animals or equipment as needed.
• Previous animal handling experience will be competitive.

Responsibilities

• Disinfect and sanitize animal handling areas.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked and organized treatment areas, ICU and exam rooms.
• Maintain clean client waiting areas and exterior hospital grounds.
• Assist veterinary technicians and assistants with patient restraint and handling.
• Assist with mortuary duties.
• Surgery, Isolation ward and ICU laundry protocols.
