Job description

Soldotna Animal Hospital Veterinary Externship

Students in the final year of veterinary education will participate in an externship at Soldotna Animal Hospital, gaining hands‑on clinical experience and developing professional skills. The externship ranges from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Create and implement treatment plans and diagnostics.
  • Provide dentistry services.
  • Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures.
  • Manage patient medical care.
  • Communicate with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Qualifications
  • Current veterinary student in the final year of their program.
  • Hold a valid veterinary student permit issued by the state of Alaska per 12 AAC 68.500 and 08.98.188.
  • Demonstrated interest in veterinary practice; priority given to students aiming to practice in Alaska.
Stipend and Benefits

Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Details of the stipend program are available in the NVA volunteer and recruiting materials.
