A leading global organization in pet care offers a unique externship for veterinary students at their hospitals. This role enables students to gain hands-on experience alongside experienced veterinarians, working on treatment plans, performing exams, and assisting in surgeries. Externships typically last 2 to 8 weeks, providing an excellent clinical learning environment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. This externship also offers an opportunity to enhance communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are open to 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
