Job summary

Sanlando Springs Animal Hospital offers a veterinary externship focused on high-quality patient care. Students gain hands-on experience under supervising DVMs, including histories, exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgeries.

Externships range from two to eight weeks, with stipend opportunities for those in the clinical portion of their education, fostering practical skills and professional communication within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Externship participants will work under supervision of DVMs and gain hands-on clinical exposure.
• Experience gathering patient histories, performing exams, creating treatment plans and performing/drafting procedures.
• Opportunity to develop communication skills with medical team, staff and clients.

Responsibilities

• Assist with physical exams, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical observations or procedures.
• Participate in medical management of patients and in treatment planning.
• Learn and apply clinical skills in a teaching hospital setting.

Description & Requirements

At Sanlando Springs Animal Hospital , we focus on the highest quality of veterinary care for our patients. We offer Wellness Plans and state-of-the-art medical technology that includes ultrasound, surgical CO2 laser, and therapeutic laser. We have the opportunity to diagnose and successfully treat some very challenging cases.

Students will work closely with the supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.Externships at Sanlando Springs Animal Hospital are offered to veterinary students in their final clinical year.
