Job summary

Hillsboro Beach Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Extern to learn and grow in a AAHA-accredited setting with experienced DVMs. externs will gain hands-on experience across history taking, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical observation/assistment, while developing communication skills with staff and clients.

Externships typically range from two to eight weeks, with stipends for travel and living expenses available, encouraging participation in NVA

Hillsboro Beach Animal Hospital is a team of passionate, hard-working health care professionals. As an extern, you'll learn, grow, and utilize your skills in the animal health care field. We are an AAHA-accredited hospital. We have three dedicated veterinarians, along with a strong support staff of skilled technicians, caring kennel workers, and courteous receptionists. Our doctors have over 45 years of combined experience and have the utmost regard for each pet as a special individual. We have a strong team spirit combined with a supportive environment.

Students will work closely with the supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
