National Veterinary Associates (NVA) offers a distinctive externship for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience. Under the guidance of Associate Veterinarians, externs will engage in various aspects of practice, from diagnostics to surgical procedures, while enhancing their communication skills within a supportive environment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to improve their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to apply for NVA externships. We look forward to your application at Shore Veterinarians.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
