Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship durations at Stafford Veterinary Hospital range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
