An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, all share common features: a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships at Tender Touch Animal Hospital.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details. The stipend amount for Tender Touch Animal Hospital is $1,000.
