Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) seeks a Veterinary Assistant to join our on-site, full-time team in Colorado Springs. You will support veterinarians, restrain animals, administer medications, and help with surgeries and recovery, contributing to compassionate care for our shelter animals.

The role involves accurate record-keeping, effective communication with staff, and daily animal care. This position emphasizes teamwork and a commitment to animal welfare.

Qualifications

• Passion for animal welfare and care.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience in animal care settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during examinations and treatments.
• Safely restrain and handle animals during procedures.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed.
• Calculate medication dosages accurately.
• Monitor patient status and communicate concerns.
• Assist with surgical prep, recovery, and post-operative care.
• Maintain accurate medical records in shelter software.
• Provide daily animal care and kennel maintenance.
• Restock medical and surgical supplies.
• Support humane euthanasia procedures when necessary.
