Job summary

Oregon Humane is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support the medical and operations teams in Salem and Portland. You will help with patient exams, anesthesia, lab work, radiology, and medication administration, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.

The role requires compassionate animal care, ability to work weekends/evenings, and strong communication with staff, donors, and the public.

Qualifications

• 1 year related work experience providing direct care to animals in a veterinary medicine center or in an animal shelter environment.
• Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills - able to communicate with a diverse population in a consistently informative, respectful and professional manner.
• Knowledge and experience working with a wide variety of dog and cat breeds.

Responsibilities

• Work daily with animals of varying size and temperament in a caring and respectful manner.
• Prepare and set up surgical suites; administer pre-anesthesia drugs and maintain clean, organized surgical areas.
• Record and report physical signs of patients before, during, and after surgery; enter notes into medical records.
• Administer medications, topically and orally; monitor and collect blood, urine, and fecal samples.
• Perform radiological services and prepare patients for procedures; assist with emergencies and public education events.
