Job summary

The Veterinary Assistant I position at University of Georgia is based in Athens. You will support senior veterinary technicians and staff in caring for ill or injured companion animals brought to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

The role requires a high school diploma and offers full-time hours with daily start times around 7:30–8:00 a.m. Preferred candidates have prior hospital experience with dogs and cats and can handle stressful situations while providing compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a multi-service animal care hospital/practice.
• Proven skills in handling canine and feline patients in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide intermediate animal care to patients: water, feed, transport, restrain, groom.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds in a clinical setting.
• Administer medication, monitor vital signs, and take samples as needed.
• Establish effective working relationships with senior veterinary staff and clinicians and assist with patient care.
• Assist with treatment plans and communicate changes to attending clinicians.
