Job summary

The University of Georgia seeks a Veterinary Assistant I for its VetMed-VTH Large Animal Hospital in Athens. You will assist with restraint of large animals, primarily horses and cows, and support clinicians during exams and procedures in a dynamic field service setting.

The role emphasizes safe animal handling, client communication, and teamwork with LVTs, students, and support staff; some lifting and driving are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience working with large animals is preferred (horses, cows, pigs, camelids).
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal anatomy is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Handle/restraint of large animals (primarily horses and cows; may include sheep, pigs, goats, camelids).
• Assist with lameness exams, procedures, standing surgeries, radiology/bone scans, neuro exams, and stallion collection.
• Ensure animal and personnel safety and maintain confidentiality; communicate effectively.
