Job summary

The Ohio State University’s Veterinary Medical Center is seeking a Veterinary Care Assistant 2 to join the Large Animal team. The role supports clinicians, staff and students in daily operations and provides essential patient care for ill and injured animals.

You will assist in patient assessment, restraint and treatments, monitor recovery, transport patients, maintain stock and sanitation, and help with laundry and facility cleaning.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in a veterinary hospital or veterinary practice is preferred.
• Experience handling large animals is desired.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care functions.
• Assist with patient assessment, restraint and treatments.
• Comfort, groom and care for hospitalized patients.
• Monitor patients and notify supervisor of any unusual changes.
• Transport patients within the Veterinary Medical Center.
• Stock supplies including feed, medical supplies and equipment.
• Clean and disinfect treatment areas and animal housing following sanitation procedures.
• Carry out prescribed bedding and daily cleaning tasks.
• Walk patients and provide clean housing, food and water.
• Clean all animal areas and inform supervisor of non-routine repairs.
• Assist with laundry.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in the provision of care to ill and injured animals as well as providing assistance to clinicians, staff and professional students in the day to day operations of the Veterinary Medical Center.
