Job summary

Bayshore Animal Clinic in Tampa, FL is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or CVT to join our AAHA-accredited, Fear Free certified practice. You’ll support patients, clients, veterinarians, and teammates throughout the hospital, including examinations, treatments, and appointments.

The role offers mentorship, opportunities to grow skills, and a collaborative team. We value compassionate care, patient safety, and continuing education within a longstanding small‑animal practice.

Qualifications

  • Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience preferred.
  • Experience in a veterinary hospital, animal hospital, general practice, or specialty setting.
  • Hands‑on experience with animal restraint, venipuncture, laboratory work, medications, and patient care.
  • Surgery, dentistry, anesthesia, and hospitalized patient experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and client service skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
  • Dependable, team‑oriented, and willing to jump in where needed.
  • Commitment to Fear Free handling, patient safety, and compassionate care.
  • CVT credential preferred, but not required for experienced Veterinary Assistants and Technicians.
  • Ability and willingness to continue developing technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate patient care, restraint, and veterinary nursing.
  • Assist with examinations, treatments, procedures, and appointments.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and sample collection.
  • Support in‑house laboratory diagnostics and patient monitoring.
  • Assist with surgery, dentistry, anesthesia, and recovery.
  • Prepare patients and treatment areas for procedures.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed.
  • Monitor hospitalized and surgical patients.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Educate clients on medications, treatments, and home care.
  • Support patient discharge and follow‑up communication.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well‑stocked treatment areas.
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians and the veterinary team.
  • Step in where needed to keep the hospital moving during busy periods.

Bayshore Animal Clinic has served the South Tampa community for more than 25 years. We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician who wants to grow their skills, contribute to excellent patient care, and be part of a team that genuinely values their work.

Whether you're an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), this is an opportunity to build your career in an established small-animal general practice with experienced medical professionals, mentorship, and opportunities to continue learning.

  • 4 days per week
  • Rotating Saturdays
  • Consistent weekday schedule with shared weekend coverage
What You'll Do

You’ll play an important role in supporting patients, clients, veterinarians, and your teammates throughout the hospital.

  • Provide compassionate patient care, restraint, and veterinary nursing

  • Support in-house laboratory diagnostics and patient monitoring

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for veterinary professionals who bring a strong foundation in patient care and a genuine desire to grow.

  • Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience preferred
  • Experience in a veterinary hospital, animal hospital, general practice, or specialty setting
  • Hands‑on experience with animal restraint, venipuncture, laboratory work, medications, and patient care
  • Surgery, dentistry, anesthesia, and hospitalized patient experience preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and client service skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced clinical environment
  • Dependable, team‑oriented, and willing to jump in where needed

Veterinary medicine is active and hands‑on. Team members should be comfortable with:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and working at floor level
  • Safely lifting, carrying, and restraining dogs and cats
  • Patient transfers, positioning, and movement
  • Cleaning, stocking, treatment preparation, and equipment maintenance
  • Exposure to animal dander, fur, saliva, urine, feces, blood, and other bodily fluids
  • Working with veterinary medications, cleaning products, and medical equipment
  • Following PPE, safety, and infection‑control procedures
