New Tampa Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our two-doctor practice in Lutz, Florida. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment with a modern IDEXX lab, digital radiology, and advanced monitoring tools, and you’ll grow through mentorship and ongoing CE opportunities.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary technician experience required.
• Strong patient handling and restraint skills.
• Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection.
• Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, and nursing care for critically ill patients.
• Excellent client communication and education skills.
• Accurate documentation and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, procedures, and surgery.
• Obtain and document thorough histories, weights, and vital signs.
• Safely handle and restrain patients, prioritizing comfort and safety.
• Perform venipuncture, collect diagnostic samples, and run in-house IDEXX tests.
• Place and maintain IV catheters and operate IV pumps.
• Administer medications, vaccines, fluids, and treatments as directed.
• Prepare patients and surgical suites, assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
• Monitor hospitalized and critically ill patients and report changes to the medical team.
• Take diagnostic digital radiographs with proper positioning and safety techniques.
• Educate clients on preventive care, nutrition, medications, and home care; follow up.
• Maintain accurate, detailed medical records.

What You’ll Do

• Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, procedures, and surgery

• Perform venipuncture, collect diagnostic samples, and run in-house IDEXX lab testing
• Place and maintain IV catheters and operate IV pumps
• Administer medications, vaccines, fluids, blood products, and treatments as directed
• Prepare patients, instruments, and surgical suites, and assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
• Monitor hospitalized, recovering, and critically ill patients and report changes to the medical team
• Take diagnostic digital radiographs using proper positioning and safety techniques
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments and imaging, anesthesia, and monitoring equipment
• Educate clients on preventive care, nutrition, medications, and home care, and make follow-up calls
• Maintain accurate, detailed medical records

Responsibilities may vary based on hospital needs as well as your experience, training, certifications, credentials, and assigned responsibilities.
