Job summary

North Hills Animal Hospital & Resort in Raleigh, NC is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for clients and patients across hospital care. The role offers a full-time schedule, four days per week, 7:30 AM–6:00 PM, with no weekends or on-call requirements.

You will assist in exams, treatments, surgery, and dentistry, monitor anesthesia, prepare spaces, and maintain records while delivering compassionate client communication.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs/cats of various sizes
• Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology, vaccine protocols, and patient care principles
• Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
• Phlebotomy, SQ, IM, IV injections, and IV catheter placement
• Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining weights/vital signs preferred
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members
• Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and restrain patients safely throughout the workday

Responsibilities

• Support efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
• Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry
• Provide safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
• Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
• Monitor anesthesia and support patient recovery as directed by the veterinary team
• Perform dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
• Review treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
• Build positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
• Maintain clean, organized exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces
