Job summary

North Hills Animal Hospital & Resort is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Raleigh. The role supports exam rooms, surgeries, dentistry, and outpatient procedures, with a focus on safe handling and compassionate client service.

The position offers 4 days per week, 7:30 AM–6:00 PM, with a pay range of $18–$21 per hour. Benefits include health, life and disability insurance, 401k, paid time off, and a bonus program. Training is available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred.
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs/cats of varying sizes.
• Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology, vaccines, and patient care principles.

Responsibilities

• Support efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows.
• Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgeries, and dentistry.
• Handle patients safely and restrain them during care.
• Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments.
• Monitor anesthesia and support recovery per veterinary team.
• Perform dental prophylaxis and dental radiography.
• Maintain medical records and treatment documentation.
• Review plans, meds, and discharge instructions with clients compassionately.
• Educate clients and build positive relationships.

North Hills Animal Hospital & Resort is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile, skilled assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to continue utilizing and developing a well-rounded clinical skillset across patient care, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures. Training is considered for candidates with the right foundational skills and attitude.

In this position, you will take an active role in:

• Supporting efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
• Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry
• Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
• Preparing patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
• Monitoring anesthesia and supporting patient recovery as directed by the veterinary team
• Performing dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
• Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
• Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
• Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
• Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces

Schedule and compensation:

• Compensation: $18 - $21 per hour, for each hour worked
• Schedule: This is a full-time position, working 4 days per week, 7:30 AM–6:00 PM. No weekends and no on-call requirements.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

• 3+years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
• Proficiency in the following skills:
  • Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology, vaccine protocols, and patient care principles
  • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
  • Phlebotomy, SQ, IM, and IV injections, and IV catheter placement
  • Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs preferred
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and restrain patients safely throughout the workday
