Rarebreed Veterinary Partners in Vienna, VA is seeking a Veterinary Assistant - Surgery to work closely with board-certified surgeons and our specialty team. You will gain hands-on experience in advanced surgical procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and specialty patient care in a supportive, learning-focused environment.

The role is full-time and on-site at our Vienna clinic, with a strong mentorship culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of veterinary hospital experience.
• Hands-on experience with anesthesia monitoring.
• Proficiency with multi-parameter monitoring equipment and anesthetic agents.
• Experience in specialty or surgical veterinary medicine preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Assist board-certified surgeons and specialty team during care and surgery.
• Take patient histories, monitor vitals, and manage check-in and discharge.
• Perform in-hospital lab procedures and prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Monitor anesthesia and support perioperative care.
• Prepare surgical prep, instruments, and maintain records.
• Perform diagnostic imaging including radiographs; maintain a clean, safe hospital.
• Provide client education on discharge, meds, and follow-up care.

Veterinary Assistant - Surgery -Full Time

Veterinary Surgical Centers in Vienna, VA

$20-22 hourly pay rate

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Assisting our board-certified surgeons and specialty team during care and surgical procedures
• Taking patient histories, monitoring vitals, and performing patient check‑in and discharge
• Performing in-hospital laboratory procedures and preparing specimens for outside laboratories
• Monitoring anesthesia and supporting pre- and post-operative patient care
• Performing surgical prep including shaving, sterile scrubbing, and instrument setup
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records including treatment sheets and medication logs
• Performing and/or assisting with diagnostic imaging, including radiographs and digital imaging
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment
• Delivering excellent customer service and professional communication to clients and referring veterinarians
• Supporting client education on discharge instructions, medications, and follow‑up care

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 2 years of veterinary hospital experience required
• Hands‑on experience with anesthesia monitoring is required
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with multi-parameter monitoring equipment, as well as, inhalant and injectable anesthetic agents
• Experience in specialty or surgical veterinary medicine is strongly preferred
• Candidates in progress toward credentialing are highly encouraged to apply
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to handle a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment with professionalism and positivity
• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
