BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department.

Schedule: Flexibility to work a potentially rotating shift (Monday - Friday) 4 10s.

A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Preferably, candidates should have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on-call schedule is required once training has been completed.

As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will:

1. Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
2. Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
3. Perform physical exams; accurately record heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
4. Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
5. Set up intravenous fluids and administer subcutaneous fluids.
6. Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
7. Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
8. Monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.
