EXPERIENCED VETERINARY ASSISTANT

We are looking to add a Full-Time Experienced Veterinary Assistant to our team in SE Portland, Oregon. Town & Country Animal Hospital is a small AHAA Accredited, 2 DVM GP located near SE Division and 122nd. Responsibilities
  1. Provide professional, efficient, quality medical care and exceptional service to clients while maintaining maximum productivity
  2. Obtain patient medical history from clients and referring veterinarians as needed
  3. Perform initial evaluation of pet's condition, collect information, observe behavior, and check vital statistics
  4. Assist Veterinarian throughout examinations, diagnosis, procedures, and treatments
  5. Restrain pets during exams as needed
  6. Create and maintain patient medical records and documentation
  7. Obtain and prepare samples for diagnostic testing
  8. Perform laboratory tests and update medical charts
  9. Educate clients about pet health, nutrition, and preventative care
  10. Perform X-rays and communicate results
  11. Fill prescriptions under veterinarian supervision
  12. Administer injections, vaccines, and medications under supervision
  13. Perform dental prophylaxis, venipunctures, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision
  14. Prepare patients, medications, and equipment for surgery
  15. Support a collaborative practice environment ensuring quality and compassionate care
  16. Comply with practice policies, quality assurance, and standards of care
  17. Perform other duties or projects as requested

Position Details

The Veterinary Assistant supports Veterinarians and Technicians, ensuring pet safety and continuity of care. The role involves walking, standing, sitting for long periods, and may expose you to noise, disinfectants, pet dander, and excretions. Physical demands include exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and 15 pounds constantly.

Starting pay is $21/hour, depending on experience and certification. Hours are 34-40 per week, with a typical schedule of four 10-hour shifts, open Monday through Saturday.
