BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department.

Pay: $17.50 - $25.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.

A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Preference is given to candidates with a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on-call schedule is required once training has been completed.

As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exams; accurately record heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormalities are detected.
• Set up intravenous fluids and administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Aseptically disconnect and reconnect patients from intravenous fluids.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.
