Job summary

Frederick Community College is seeking an Adjunct Instructor for its Veterinary Assistant Program to develop engaging lectures and interactive labs in line with NAVTA standards. Candidates must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine license or Veterinary Technician certification and have excellent communication skills. This position does not offer remote teaching opportunities and is a vital part of training the next generation of veterinary assistants.

Position Summary:

This position supports the Veterinary Assistant Training program under the Continuing Education and Workforce Development Healthcare Careers Department. The adjunct instructor prepares students for work as a veterinary assistant through the development of engaging lectures and interactive classroom labs following essential curriculum standards outlined by National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Develop engaging lectures following NAVTA essential skills checklist
2. Prepare interactive labs for students to practice concepts
3. Create both written and skills assessments to measure competency
4. Prepare students for their 100 hour clinical externship
5. Participate in appropriate professional development activities to assure currency in both discipline, knowledge and instructional methods

Required Minimum Qualifications:

1. Must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine license or Veterinary Technician certification
2. Ability to develop course curriculum based on NAVTA guidelines and textbook, including PowerPoint presentations
3. Excellent public speaking and interpersonal communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

1. Previous experience teaching or in corporate/staff training
2. Experience using Blackboard learning management system.
3. Associates degree or above
