Job summary

Santa Barbara Humane, Santa Barbara Campus is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for a full-time, non-exempt role with strong benefits. You will help with customer service, data entry, vaccinations, and assisting veterinarians to keep shelter and public animals healthy.

You will support surgical and dental procedures, manage clinic records, and assist with routine medical exams. Weekend availability is required; benefits include health, vision, dental, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year in related field; shelter or veterinary clinic preferred.
• Excellent computer and software skills.
• Able to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• VACSP license from the California Veterinary Medical Board or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Restrain animals humanely for exams and procedures.
• Assist with medical tasks including blood draws, medications, microchips, vaccines.
• Monitor anesthesia and maintain sterile fields during surgery.
• Handle clinic clerical duties: phones, appointments, medical records, checkout.
• Maintain daily cleanliness and sanitation of clinic areas and equipment.
• Support overall clinic and shelter operations and team communication.
