Job summary

Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide medical and humane care for sheltered animals under the supervision of the Director of Veterinary Services. You will assist with daily rounds, exams, treatments, and surgical prep in the spay/neuter clinic, and help educate the public at intake.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED, ability to work weekends/holidays, and experience or interest in veterinary support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or related experience or training.
• Ability to manage the emotional aspect of end-of-life services.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Background check upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Conduct morning and evening rounds to monitor animal well-being.
• Prepare daily list of animals requiring vet exams.
• Administer daily medical treatment as prescribed by staff veterinarians.
• Assist veterinarian in examination and treatment of animals.
• Assist with emergency medical treatment as necessary.
• Perform health checks prior to adoption.
• Participate in shelter intake and screening activities.
• Assist with lab work and radiology requirements.
• Supervise vet department volunteers.
