Job summary

Animal Care Centers of NYC assists in the provision of basic care for shelter animals, supporting LVTs and veterinarians. The role includes initial exams, documenting medical findings, administering medications, bathing, grooming, and facilitating smooth department operations.

Essential tasks include data entry, basic pharmacology understanding, and coordination with veterinary teams to ensure timely care in a busy shelter environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 12 months experience working with animals in a veterinary or shelter setting.
• Willing to apply for euthanasia technician certification.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs and stand for prolonged periods.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective restraint for all procedures.
• Assist with all aspects of surgery – pre, intra, and postoperatively.
• Obtain basic vitals of hospitalized animals when directed and notify veterinarians when outside of the normal parameters.
• Under the direction of a veterinarian, accurately document medical exam findings, vaccinations, medications, surgery information and treatments in Shelter Buddy medical records.
• Facilitate transfer of animals from intake or medical areas and into appropriate housing.
• Assist in performing and obtaining diagnostics (radiographs, blood work, cultures, etc.).
• Assist in stocking and maintenance of adequate inventory.
• Required to obtain ACC-provided euthanasia certification to perform humane euthanasia when needed.
• Implant microchips as needed.
